Art through child’s eyes

Display at STA plaza part of statewide creativity campaign

More than 100 pieces of art made by children have been on display for the past three weeks on the second floor of the STA Bus Plaza in downtown Spokane.

The art represents the work of children attending six day care and preschool learning centers around the city.

The pieces feature bright colors of paint, construction paper, crayon, glitter and other materials, showing off the imagination and ingenuity of children in their earliest years.

“It’s great for the centers because it shows what they are doing with the kids,” said Kathy Thamm, an organizer of the show. She said she hopes to make the children’s art displays an ongoing event in Spokane.

The plaza show is part of a statewide campaign, “Nurturing Children’s Creativity.” An artist reception was held last Friday at the plaza during the monthly First Friday art events in Spokane.

Community-Minded Enterprises, United Way, Thrive by Five Washington and a coalition known as Born Learning Northeast Washington were among the organizations involved in the children’s art show.
