Games feature Phelps in two races

By MIKE HUGHES Gannett News Service

Today’s must-see

Olympics, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., 8 p.m. to midnight, 12:35-5 a.m., NBC.

Here are the team finals for women’s gymnastics, which Americans seem to savor.

Also, Michael Phelps could go for two gold medals in the 200-meter butterfly and the freestyle relay.

The daytime includes beach volleyball, swimming preliminaries, kayak and canoe finals and water polo between the U.S. and Italy.

Tonight’s might-see

“House,” 8 p.m., Fox.

Here’s a rerun of the season opener, reminding us how brilliant this show can be.

Dr. House has no staff, so he bounces ideas off the janitor - even giving him a lab coat.

That surrounds a case in which everything about the patient defies previous medical reports. The explanation might seem like a stretch, but it has happened in real life.

Other choices include

More Olympics, cable. That includes 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. on USA, 2 a.m. to 2 p.m. on MSNBC, 2-5 p.m. on CNBC and 6-8 p.m. on Oxygen.

“Wipeout,” 8 p.m., ABC. In a change of plans, this show tosses in a rerun. Contestants include a nanny and a funeral home counselor.

“NCIS,” 8 p.m., CBS. The team had planned to catch weapons dealers; instead, it witnesses a murder.
