She kept Tom but lost the bob

Katie Holmes, who made a huge hairstyle splash when she helped fuel Hollywood’s bob craze late last year, has been seen out and about in New York with a new pixie cut.

Photos popping up online show Mrs. Tom Cruise sporting a shaggier version of the short ’do, with long bangs and a tapered neck.

Last year, Holmes sheared off her long locks to create a sleek bob that some compared to the look popularized by friend Victoria Beckham.

Internet critics weighed in: Some loved it, others hated it, sniping that Holmes looked like her then 1-year-old daughter Suri.

The new ’do also is getting mixed reviews.

“I’m personally not crazy about the look on anyone,” says celebrity stylist and beauty expert Billy Lowe. “I liked her much better in the bob. I thought it was really sophisticated, very chic and very trendy.”

But Stacy London, co-host of TLC’s “What Not to Wear,” raves about the new cut, saying it fits her face and her fashion sense much better.

“This whole sort of fashion evolution since becoming Mrs. Tom Cruise, I think it has taken her time to find her sea-legs. This haircut is clearly a step in the right direction.”

Unlimited edition

An old Jay McInerney novel featuring a party girl based on John Edwards’ former mistress, Rielle Hunter, is getting a fresh printing.

Vintage Books has ordered an additional 2,500 copies of “Story of My Life.”

The book, first released in 1988, is narrated by a promiscuous, aspiring actress whom McInerney has said was inspired by Hunter.

A real Lohan blow

Ali Lohan was deeply hurt by comments CNN newsman Anderson Cooper made about her on “Live With Regis and Kelly,” dad Michael Lohan says.

Cooper said that since Lindsay Lohan never appears on mother Dina Lohan’s reality show, “Living Lohan,” viewers are “stuck with these horrific people” – meaning Dina and Ali.

“There’s this perfectly nice – allegedly a 14-year-old – girl, looks to be about 60,” added Cooper, who opined that Ali aspires to be “a striptease person.”

Superstardom? No, thanks

Pop singer Joanna “JoJo” Levesque says she turned down the title role in Disney’s “Hannah Montana” before it went to Miley Cyrus.

“No regrets. No regrets at all,” Levesque, 17, tells TV’s “Extra,” adding: “It’s not really what I see for myself.”

Chunky Monkey on your back?

Jerry Greenfield says his ice cream company, Ben & Jerry’s – which has immortalized the likes of Elton John and Jerry Garcia – will never develop a flavor named after troubled British singer Amy Winehouse.

Says Greenfield: “I’m not sure that Amy has the proper image that Ben & Jerry’s wants to be connected with.”
