NBC offers more swim finals

Tonight’s must-see

Olympics 8 p.m., NBC. NBC is expecting three gold-medal swims in the first hour. Women have the 200-meter butterfly; men have the 100-meter freestyle and the 200-meter breaststroke.

Then it’s the finals for one event in which the U.S. dominates and another led by the host Chinese. The former is the women’s relay of 200-meter freestyle; the U.S. team has the world record. The latter is men’s individual gymnastics; China has world champion Yang Wei and the U.S. lost both Hamm brothers to injury.

Tonight’s might-see

“Greatest American Dog,” 8 p.m., CBS.

The dogs compete in a “Salvador Doggy” painting contest.

On the human side, Brandy was ousted last week. Now there’s more time for Laura and Travis to get acquainted.

Other choices include

Olympics, cable. That includes 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. on USA, 2 a.m. to 2 p.m., MSNBC, 2-5 p.m., CNBC and 6-8 p.m. Oxygen.

More Olympics, NBC. In the daytime (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.), there are U.S. teams in beach volleyball and women’s water polo. Early evening (8-10 p.m.) includes more beach volleyball, plus the finals in men’s synchronized springboard diving.

“Bones,” 8 p.m., Fox. This show is best when Brennan struggles with social skills. Tonight, a baby is found and Brennan is arbitrarily expected to show mothering skills.

“Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,” 9 p.m., Fox. As they search for stolen cargo, John becomes separated from his mother and Cameron. He also comes across some harsh possibilities for the future.

“Criminal Minds,” 9 p.m., CBS. This rerun catches a popular episode from January of 2007. In a diner, Gideon (Mandy Patinkin) tries to get a serial killer (Keith Carradine) to say where a woman is being held.

“CSI: NY,” 10 p.m., CBS. In an abandoned warehouse, the team thinks it’s closing in on Suspect X.
