Former Coug signs AFL extension

Quarterback Aaron Garcia of the New York Dragons is returning for a 15th Arena League season.

Garcia, who played two seasons at Washington State (1989-90), re-signed Monday with the Dragons. He is one of four pro quarterbacks with more than 800 passing touchdowns.

The 37-year-old Garcia threw for 3,500 yards and 78 touchdowns in 2008.

•Washington quarterback Jake Locker returned for a full practice on Monday, the first time he had done so since he injured his hamstring 11 days earlier.

Golf

Joel Dahmen of Clarkston, Wash., shot a 3-over-par 73 on Monday in the opening round of stroke play at the U.S. Amateur in Pinehurst, N.C.

Wesley Bryan and Andrew Putnam were the co-leaders at 3-under 67.

Volleyball

Gonzaga was picked seventh and San Diego No. 1 in the West Coast Conference coaches preseason volleyball poll.
