Lunchables Wrapz get OK from children, and adults

Lorie Hutson

Oscar Mayer may be on to something with the new Lunchables Wrapz.

For the first time, the little ready-made lunches scored almost as well with our adult tasters as the kids at our annual back-to-school tasting panel. Each year, we invite our tasting panel volunteers to bring a young guest to the meeting.

Our young tasters gave the grilled chicken wraps four stars out of five for flavor. They would be a hit in the Hubbard household. Five-year-old Sam Hubbard said, “Thumbs up! I can’t stop eating this.”

Her brother Pierce, 8, said, “It’s a new thing for me and it’s really good.”

Our adult tasters agreed. Overall, the chicken wraps received a three-and-a-half-star rating from the grown-ups.

“Has a good flavor and it’s plenty full of good things, but it needs heat,” said Larry Inman.

We opted to serve the wraps cold because most kids wouldn’t have access to a microwave during their lunches. The Lunchables came with a Capri Sun juice box and a treat, such as a mini Crunch bar or an Airheads candy.

The beef taco wraps didn’t score quite as well with tasters, but still end up with a three-star rating from both the children and adults.

“Really good,” said Grace Kohler, 9. “Tastes and smells like what my mom is making for dinner tonight.”

“Would be better if warm,” said Andy Hoye. “But it has a good, rich taste and mouth feel.”

Of course, not everyone was a fan of the wraps.

“A cold taco is a no-no. Maybe heated, but it is certainly not lunch-box material,” said Skip Hubbard.

“It made me take the biggest gulp of water ever,” said Drew Kazanis, 10.
