Boys rescued from ice cave

Associated Press

SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. – Two teenage boys trapped for several hours under ice and snow after an ice cave collapsed on top of them have been rescued near Snoqualmie Pass.

King County sheriff’s spokesman John Urquhart said the teens were suffering from hypothermia. He said the 14-year-old had serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The 17-year-old was being evaluated.

The teens were hiking with their mothers and two other girls when they were trapped at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Rescuers used chainsaws to cut through compacted snow and ice.

A Navy helicopter was called to fly the boys to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
