Bus destroyed in fire on East Trent

A fire that burned a yellow school-type bus near the intersection of Trent and Napa began spreading to an adjacent metal building before firefighters put it out.

The cause of the fire in the 2500 block of East Trent is under investigation, the Spokane Fire Department reported.

The Sunday afternoon blaze drew 27 firefighters from several stations. Once teams entered the building it took about 15 minutes to extinguish the fire with water.

The bus was declared a total loss, and the fire caused minor damage to the building.

Show filmed in North Idaho

Civil War re-enactors in northern Idaho sported fake blood and gore last week during filming of a half-hour show that producers hope will one day be featured on cable TV.

Those behind the project, called “Taps,” say the production location in Post Falls – far from the glamour and glitz of Hollywood sets – is a sign the local movie industry is getting stronger.

W.J. Lazerus, who is part of the Kootenai North Idaho Film, Video and Entertainment Society, says, “This summer there are five or six independent short films being shot.”

He hopes to double that numbe next year.

The 2008 Idaho Legislature passed a film rebate bill, which could one day provide production companies with rebates on qualifying films shot in the state.
