Bills ruin Colts’ grand opening

The Buffalo Bills ruined Indianapolis’ grand opening celebration Sunday night.

Xavier Omon ran for one touchdown, Terrence McGee returned a fumble for another score and former Washington State Cougar Rian Lindell kicked two field goals, leading the Bills to a 20-7 victory over the mistake-prone Colts in the new Lucas Oil Stadium debut.

Little went right for the Colts after they opened the new roof and the sliding window in the back of the north end zone less than 30 minutes before kickoff.

J.P. Losman, who replaced injured Trent Edwards at quarterback, helped the Bills play keepaway in the first half, running more than twice as many plays as the Colts.

The Colts only score came on a 94-yard touchdown pass from Quinn Gray to Devin Aromashodu late in the third quarter.

Miami suspends seven for opener

Miami starting quarterback Robert Marve and six others have been suspended for Thursday’s season opener against Charleston Southern.

Marve, a redshirt freshman announced as the starter after Sunday night’s practice, will miss the game due to an incident last year. He was arrested Oct. 31 for smashing a car mirror. He was initially charged with two misdemeanors, but they were later lifted.

He will be replaced by true freshman Jacory Harris, a Miami native.

Record fish on … Barbie pole?

David Hayes hooked the largest channel catfish in North Carolina history – 21 pounds, 1 ounce – on a 6-pound test line with a Barbie fishing rod that his 3-year-old granddaughter Alyssa had just handed him.

“She said, ‘Papa, you’re going to break my rod,’ because it was bent double,” Hayes told the Hickory Daily Record. “He turned the water over, and I saw his tail was about as wide as my two hands.”

Twenty-five minutes later, the fish measured 32 inches – or 2 inches longer than the pole.
