‘Jim’ starts 8th season tonight

By MIKE HUGHES Gannett News Service

Tonight’s might-see

“According to Jim” season-opener, 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., ABC. Yes, this is still around.

Tonight, it starts its eighth season. That nudges it past “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “Mad About You,” “Homicide,” “Hill Street Blues” and “The West Wing”; life isn’t fair.

The first episode has Jim guilt-tripping the kids. The second has Cheryl chatting a lot after her sister moves out; Jim rushes to find her a new friend.

Tonight’s might-see II

“Bad Girls Club” season-opener, 10 p.m., Oxygen. “Are we going to be slinging drinks every night?” one woman asks in astonishment.

Another one groans: “I’ve never been thrown out of so many places.”

These strangers started living together two days ago. They’ve been ejected from three places, thrown drinks twice and broken a window.

This is an over-the-top (and sometimes topless) bunch. The reality show is crude and pointless, but also sort of addictive.

Other choices include

“World Music Awards,” 8 p.m., MyNetwork TV. The Monaco ceremony has performances by Alicia Keys, Kid Rock, Beyonce and her sister Solange. Ringo Starr accepts an award for the Beatles.

“Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” 8 p.m., ABC. Here’s an animated, 1970 classic. Mickey Rooney provides the voice of young Kris Kringle, who just wants to make toys for kids.

“House,” 8 p.m., Fox. After last week’s crisis, the doctor known as Thirteen has finally agreed to enter a trial treatment for Huntington’s disease.

“Gavin & Stacey,” 8:40 p.m., BBC America. The season-finale starts slowly, as the marriage of these likable people wobbles. It ends well, however, as the time nears for their friend Nessa to have her baby.

“Shatner’s Raw Nerve” debut, 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., Biography Channel. William Shatner’s style, blunt yet sympathetic, works surprisingly well. The opener catches Valerie Bertinelli in a reflective mood; the second episode, which we haven’t seen, has Tim Allen.

“Eli Stone,” 10 p.m., ABC. Eli’s vision puts him inside his father’s body, on the 12th birthday of Eli’s brother Nate.
