In brief: Art exhibit big success

The War on Want exhibit at Spokane Falls Community College Fine Art Gallery was a success.

More than 250 works of art created by local artists hung on the walls through November. The pieces were donated and bid upon by visitors.

The benefit raised $7,377.00 – $3,688.50 will be going to Volunteers of America and the Union Gospel Mission. “We really appreciate the art community and the Spokane community for their contributions and support,” said artist and gallery director Tom O’Day. “Thank you.”

Comments on wetland sought

The Community Development Department in Cheney is asking for comments from the residents in regard to a wetland on Fred Johns Way behind 1500, 1616 and 1632 W. First Street. The 15,197-square-foot area is a wetland on the site of the new industrial park the city is developing.

To mitigate the loss of the wetland, the city is proposing to enhance a wetland on another site which is commonly known as Miller Pond.

Comments are due in the planning department at Monday and the complete file can be reviewed by the public between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the permit center of the Community Development Department, 112 Anderson Road.

The public hearing will be Jan. 12.

Submit comments to Elisa Rodriguez at eridriguez@ cityofcheney.org.
