Friends still searching for missing man, 66

A Spokane man missing since Monday hasn’t been located.

Edward Kelly, 66, left his home in north Spokane Monday night on foot. He typically walks near the area of Commellini’s restaurant, 14100 N. Dartford Drive, but it’s unknown what route he took Monday, said his wife, Kati Kelly.

“He just walked out the door,” she said. “I’m extremely concerned.” Friends are searching north Spokane for him and will continue the search tomorrow, she said.

Edward Kelly is described as 5-foot-9, 165 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing Ugg brand boots, a gray hat and possibly a dark-colored jacket.

Anyone who has seen Kelly or knows where he is should call 911.

Broken natural gas line cuts off heat at mall

A break in a natural gas line shut off heat at the Spokane Valley Mall and closed three restaurants Friday.

Avista Utilities crews had to access the line from the snow-covered roof, said Daryl Rheingans, the mall’s general manager.

He said the lack of heat inside the mall wasn’t noticeable.

“I haven’t gotten any complaints,” he said.

The break was discovered in the morning and took several hours to fix.

The restaurants that closed were Azteca, Ivar’s Seafood and the Flaming Wok.

Fire causes $150,000 damage to health clinic

Fire damaged a health clinic in a Spokane Valley strip mall Friday.

The fire was contained to the attic of the Greenacres Health Care Center, 18215 E. Appleway Ave., and the main building suffered smoke and water damage, said Spokane Valley Fire Chief Mike Thompson.

Investigators estimated damage to be about $150,000.

A restaurant and other businesses in the mall were not affected, Thompson said. The fire appeared to have started near a furnace, Thompson said. The investigation is ongoing.

The building’s ceiling had different types of construction material from additions that made it difficult to access the attic, he said, but crews contained the blaze about 5:25 p.m., about 22 minutes after it was reported.

Driver jailed after two-car crash on I-90

A two-car crash on Interstate 90 Friday afternoon landed one driver in the Spokane County Jail on a vehicular assault charge.

The crash blocked the northbound onramp to Highway 195 and two lanes on eastbound I-90 for about three hours.

The name of the man arrested for vehicular assault had not been released Friday night.

The other driver, whose car rolled, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Washington State Patrol. The crash was reported about 2:55 p.m.
