Vandals fall at Idaho St.

Guard Amorrow Morgan hit a 10-foot jump shot with 1.5 seconds remaining to seal Idaho State’s come-from-behind, 61-59 non-conference men’s basketball victory over Idaho on Monday night in Pocatello.

Idaho State (3-10) overcame a 10-point second-half deficit.

Morgan led the winners with 18 points, and had four assists, three blocked shots and three rebounds. Idaho State guard Matt Stucki added 15 points and had six assists and two blocked shots.

The Vandals (6-7) were led by guard Mac Hopson’s 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Hopson was called for an offensive foul on an inbounds play with 11.3 seconds left, turning the ball over to Idaho State and setting up the Bengals’ final shot.

Guard Kashif Watson was the Vandals’ second-leading scorer with 10 points. He had four assists.

Whitworth 79, Gustavus Adolphus 58: Whitworth put together its most efficient performance of the season to win the non-conference game in the Ameriprise Classic on Monday afternoon in Burlingame, Calif.

The 19th-ranked Pirates (8-1) shot 64 percent from the field to steadily pull away from the Gusties (3-5).

David Riley scored 19 of his game-high 24 points in the second half to lead Whitworth. He hit five consecutive 3-pointers during a stretch early in the second half that saw the Pirates increase their lead to 62-32.

Ross Nakamura scored 12 points and dished out six assists for Whitworth, while Nate Montgomery added 10 points and eight rebounds. Bo Gregg also scored 10 points for the victorious Bucs.

No. 21 Puget Sound whipped Simpson 118-88 in the first game.

College women

North Idaho College 79, Lane 67: Natalie Nichols and Marielle McKean scored 12 points apiece to lead a balanced scoring attack as the Cardinals beat Lane in the championship game of the Chemeketa Community College tournament in Salem, Ore.

Lindsay Wimett and Biaca Cheever scored 11 for NIC and teammates Shaneya Valdez and Brigitte Boucher added 10 apiece.

Columbia Basin 61, CCS 51: Monique Wickenhagen scored 18 points, pulled down six rebounds and handed out six assists to lead the Hawks past the Sasquatch.

Kelsey Stillar led CCS with 16 points.
