Drifting snow main traffic issue

Drifting and blowing snow has closed Highway 231 north of Reardan and is making travel trickier around the region, and Spokane County officials said road closures because of drifts were widespread in rural areas.

The Washington state Department of Transportation closed the highway between the Reardan city limits and the Spokane River.

Low visibility also has been reported on Highway 2 between Fairchild and Davenport.

Coulee-Hite Road in northwest Spokane County was among the routes shut by snow drifts today.

Idaho officials said driving conditions were difficult in the Post Falls and Rathdrum areas.

Forecasters said more snow and wind are expected starting Thursday, but the snow should turn to rain late in the day, reducing the risk of drifting.

In the downtown area, Post and Riverside are blocked because organizers set up for First Night, police said.
