NEW YORK – Bernard Lagat used his signature finishing kick to win his sixth Wanamaker Mile on Friday night at the 101st Millrose Games.

The reigning 1,500- and 5,000-meter world champion and former Washington State University star pulled into the lead with a lap and a half to go as the Madison Square Garden crowd roared. He easily held off Australian Craig Mottram, who gave him a tough race last year. The Kenyan-born American moved a victory away from Eamonn Coghlan’s meet record of seven wins.

Lagat finished in 3 minutes, 57.51 seconds.

Tom Skipper won the pole vault with a mark of 18 feet, 81/4 inches. Former University of Washington and University High star Brad Walker finished fifth at 18-1/2.

In the 600 yards, Bershawn Jackson edged three-time defending U.S. outdoor 800 champ Khadevis Robinson by 0.19 seconds.

Lashinda Demus, who gave birth to twin boys in June, won the 600, her first victory since then giving birth.
