Highlanders top Panthers

Sara Nichols scored 11 of her game-high 15 points in the fourth quarter and Lexie Pettersen added 13 as Shadle Park moved into second place in the Greater Spokane League with a 47-44 victory over Mead Saturday at Spokane Falls Community College.

Nichols scored the final two points of the game with 4 seconds remaining. The Panthers’ half-court shot at the buzzer was unsuccessful.

Kendra Knutsen tossed in nine points and Lindsay Niemeier added eight for Shadle Park, which outscored Mead 17-10 in the fourth quarter to erase a four-point third-quarter deficit.

Jazmine Redmon tallied a game-high 16 points to lead the Panthers.

The Highlanders improved to 15-3. Mead fell to 14-3.

Central Valley 54, North Central 45: Justine Bowman scored 15 points and Lindsey Gigler added 14 to lead the Bears past the visiting Indians.

Ashley Hinseth added nine points for Central Valley, which outscored North Central 15-5 in the third quarter to take a 45-27 lead into the fourth.

The Indians were led by Mariah Alexander, who scored 12 points, and Nicole Graybeal, who added 11.

Central Valley improved to 10-8 while North Central fell to 4-13.

University 54, East Valley 44: Riki Schiermeister scored eight of her game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter and pulled down five rebounds to lead the Titans past the visiting Knights.

Zoe Scott added 12 points and four assists for University, which outscored East Valley 29-22 in the second half.

Kathy Tate had 17 points and Morgan Manchester added 12 for the Knights.

University improved to 12-5. East Valley fell to 4-12.
