Bowman earns award for month

Gonzaga sophomore Heather Bowman was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Month for January, the conference announced Wednesday.

Bowman (Lewis and Clark High), returning from a hand injury, averaged 17.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game as the Bulldogs finished 7-0 during the month.

Baseball

In their preseason poll, Northwest Conference coaches predicted a fourth-place finish for Whitworth this season.

The Pirates, 9-15 in conference and 14-25 overall last season, received 56 points in the poll. Favored Linfield received eight first-place votes and 88 points.
