Lake City outlasts Post Falls

The Lake City Timberwolves scored the first nine points of the game and cruised to a 59-39 Inland Empire League basketball victory over the Post Falls Trojans (7-12, 5-6) at Lake City High.

Jason Wheelock led Lake City (15-3, 9-1) with 13 points and five assists, while Ben Carroll nailed three 3-pointers on his way to 12 points.

•Darrick Holmquist scored 14 points and Nick Arthun and Tom Norris added 13 apiece to lead the Wallace Miners to a 55-48 victory over the Clark Fork Wampus Cats in North Star League play at Clark Fork. Wallace (12-4, 8-0) made 11 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter. Clark Fork (10-4, 5-1) was 9 of 13 in the game. Drew Wilkinson scored a game-high 15 points to lead Clark Fork. … Also in the league, Bob Schrack had 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead Coeur d’Alene Charter (7-10, 3-5) to a 60-26 win over visiting Mullan (3-13, 0-7).

•The Great Northern League game between Cheney and Medical Lake game at Medical Lake was postponed until Feb. 19.

•Adam Ward scored 13 points and Chris Wargo chipped in 12 to lead the LaCrosse-Washtucna Tigercats (12-9) to a 66-31 victory over the Colton Wildcats (5-14) to open the Whitman County League tournament at Endicott. The Wildcats were eliminated. L-W will play at noon Saturday for the No. 4 berth to district. The matchup to determine L-W’s opponent, between Sprague-Harrington and St. John-Endicott, was postponed until 6 p.m. today.

Wrestling: Host Post Falls scored two Inland Empire League wrestling victories, defeating Lake City 79-(minus) 1 and Sandpoint 53-24.
