Trojans defeat Huskies

O.J. Mayo only needed to carry Southern California for 20 minutes.

His teammates showed up in the second half.

Mayo showed his brilliance as a scorer, with 20 of his 29 points in the first half, but it was the rest of the Trojans keying a second-half surge as USC routed Washington 73-59 on Thursday night in Seattle.

The Trojans won for the sixth time in their last seven games, thanks to the likes of Dwight Lewis, Davon Jefferson and Angelo Johnson, who were largely responsible for USC’s 19-0 run early in the second half that sent Washington fans toward the exits with 11 minutes left.

Jefferson finished with 17 points and Lewis added nine as the Trojans (15-7, 6-4 Pac-10) got coach Tim Floyd his 300th collegiate victory.

Jon Brockman led Washington (12-11, 3-7) with 13 points and 14 rebounds, but the Huskies lost their fourth in a row overall and for the third straight time on their once-formidable homecourt.

(9) Stanford 72, Oregon 43: At Stanford, Calif., Robin Lopez totaled 15 points, six rebounds and two blocks and the Cardinal (19-3, 8-2) jumped to an early lead on the way to winning their sixth straight game.

Tajuan Porter scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the cold-shooting Ducks (13-9, 4-6), who are 4-7 on the road.

California 81, Oregon St. 76: At Berkeley, Calif. Ryan Anderson scored 22 points to become the first sophomore at California to reach the 1,000 mark, leading the Golden Bears to a victory over the Beavers.

The win was not nearly as easy as expected for Cal (14-7, 5-5). Oregon State (6-16, 0-10) managed to make matters tough before losing its 12th straight game. Marcel Jones’ three-point play midway through the second half capped a 9-1 run that gave the Beavers a 62-60 lead.
