NAACP honors entertainers

Mike Hughes Gannett News Service

Tonight’s must-see

“NAACP Image Awards,” 8-10 p.m., Fox.

Each year, this offers dynamic music and passionate speeches. This year, with an interim Writers Guild agreement, it has a full-glitz show and a better spot in the schedule.

There are special awards for Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin, plus a strong focus on Denzel Washington.

Two of his films, “The Great Debaters” and “American Gangster,” are up for best picture. They face “I Am Legend,” “Talk to Me” and Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married?”

Perry is also nominated for best TV series, for “House of Payne.” It faces “Girlfriends,” “Everybody Hates Chris,” “Ugly Betty” and “30 Rock.”

“Debaters” leads with eight nominations, including Washington for supporting actor.

Tonight’s might-see

“Lost,” 9 p.m., ABC.

Last week’s episode (rerunning at 8 p.m.) introduced the four “rescuers.” It suggested they are only here to grab Ben.

Tonight, Locke wants to use a hostage to force a rescue.

Other choices include

“Survivor: Micronesia,” 8 p.m., CBS. It’s time for a second ouster, in the battle between past contestants and fans.

“I Love Lucy,” 5-7 p.m., TV Land. For Valentine’s Day, here are four romantic episodes. In the first, Lucy wants the courtship to be repeated, because her name is misspelled on the marriage license. In the second, she tries to find a way to tell Ricky she’s pregnant. The third is the hilarious episode in which she goes into labor. In the fourth they try to have an anniversary party alone.

More Valentine’s Day programming, cable or satellite, various networks: AMC has two adequate Steve Martin comedies, “Father of the Bride” (1991) at 8 p.m. and “Father of the Bride: Part II” (1995) at 10. Hallmark reruns “Bridal Fever” (2008) – an OK film, thanks to Andrea Roth – at 9. Discovery studies the biology of love with the documentary “Anatomy of Sex,” at 10.

“The Celebrity Apprentice,” 9 p.m., NBC. Both teams run horse-and-carriage businesses in Central Park, but one crumbles with in-fighting.

“In Treatment,” 9:30 p.m., HBO. Last week’s session with a combative married couple was cut short when she had a miscarriage. (It was during the lull after they left that the therapist’s wife told him she’s having an affair.) Now the couple is back and arguing.

“Lipstick Jungle,” 10:01 p.m., NBC. After a moderately good opener, this series descends into an immensely unlikely plot. An enemy is planning to ruin Wendy (Brooke Shields) by publishing a nasty book by her nanny. Try to recall how many books you’ve read by the nannies of movie executives.

“Eli Stone,” 10:02 p.m., ABC. The first two episodes mentioned that Eli’s fiance (Natasha Henstridge) is a lawyer and is the boss’ daughter. Tonight, they’re on opposite sides of a law suit. Also, he’s having visions of World War II.
