Thrashers win in 10th round

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

Marian Hossa scored the tying goal for Atlanta with 18.1 seconds left in regulation and Pascal Dupuis had the decisive tally in the 10th round of a shootout in the Thrashers’ 4-3 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Friday night in Newark, N.J.

Hossa, likely in his final days with the Thrashers as the NHL trade deadline approaches, smacked a loose puck past Martin Brodeur to force overtime.

Ilya Kovalchuk, who earlier scored his 40th goal, answered Patrik Elias’ shootout goal to send the tiebreaker into extra rounds.

Hossa and Devils captain Jamie Langenbrunner both found the net in the fourth round, and no one else scored until Dupuis.

Kings 6, Flames 3: At Los Angeles, Ted Purcell scored his first NHL goal and Brian Boyle notched his fourth in seven games since his promotion from the minors, sparking the Kings to a victory over Calgary.

Blue Jackets 5, Red Wings 1: At Detroit, Fredrik Modin scored twice and Columbus beat the Red Wings, handing NHL-leading Detroit its fifth straight loss.

Rick Nash had a goal and two assists and Nikolai Zherdev added a goal and an assist for Columbus.

Stars 4, Ducks 2: At Anaheim, Calif., Stephane Robidas scored twice in the second period and goalie Marty Turco recorded his 200th career victory as Dallas defeated the Ducks.

Panthers 4, Capitals 2: At Sunrise, Fla., Nathan Horton and Kamil Kreps scored third-period goals and Florida rallied past Washington.

The victory snapped Florida’s two-game skid and was its first game since Richard Zednik’s frightening neck injury on Sunday.
