Gripping day for area wrestlers

Eastern Washington capped a dominant performance at the Mat Classic XX wrestling championships on Saturday at Tacoma. At the 4A level, University’s Brian Owen won his second state title to lead a pack of four GSL wrestlers who won titles. East Valley senior Clete Hanson was the lone GSL 3A champ, winning at 189. In the 2A meet, Deer Park won its first state title and Riverside senior Ryan DesRoches became a three-time state champion. Lakeside won five finals and finished with the second-highest score in meet history at any level.
