Hurricanes upset fifth-ranked Blue Devils

Looking to bounce back from their first conference loss, the Duke Blue Devils instead stumbled again.

The Miami Hurricanes (18-7, 5-6 ACC) beat fifth-ranked Duke (22-3, 10-2) for the first time in 45 years Wednesday, scoring 15 consecutive points to build a big lead early in the second half and holding on to win 96-95.

Senior Dwayne Collins scored a career-high 26 points to help the Hurricanes. They beat a top-five team for the first time since a victory at No. 2 Connecticut on Feb. 20, 1999.

Sophomore Jon Scheyer scored a career-high 27 points for the Blue Devils.

(1) Memphis 97, Tulane 71: At New Orleans, Chris Douglas-Roberts scored 29 points to lead the Tigers (26-0, 12-0 C-USA) to a victory over the Green Wave (15-10, 5-6).

David Gomez led Tulane with 23 points.

(2) Tennessee 89, Auburn 70: At Knoxville, Tenn., Ramar Smith had a team-high 19 points and the Volunteers (24-2, 11-1 SEC) beat the Tigers (13-11, 3-8).

Tyler Smith grabbed 13 rebounds for Tennessee, which extended its home winning streak to 30 games.

(3) North Carolina 84, N.C. State 70: At Raleigh, N.C., Tyler Hansbrough had 32 points to help the Tar Heels (25-2, 10-2 ACC) beat the Wolfpack (15-11, 4-8).

(8) Butler 51, Illinois-Chicago 46: At Chicago, A.J. Graves scored 14 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer in the final minute, and the Bulldogs (25-2, 14-2) closed in on the top seed in the Horizon League tournament by beating the Flames (14-13, 8-8).

(11) Wisconsin 71, Illinois 57: At Champaign, Ill., Trevon Hughes scored 18 points and Marcus Landry added 17 to help the Badgers (22-4, 12-2) beat the Illini (11-16, 3-11) and move into a first-place tie in the Big Ten.

Wisconsin joined Purdue atop the conference.

(19) Michigan State 86, Penn State 49: At East Lansing, Mich., Raymar Morgan scored 16 points, and the Spartans (21-5, 9-4 Big Ten) remained unbeaten at home this season with a victory over the Nittany Lions (12-13, 4-9).

Nebraska 71, (24) Kansas State 64: Steve Harley scored 20 points and Aleks Maric added 15 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Cornhuskers (15-9, 4-7 Big 12) past the Wildcats (18-7, 8-3).

Michael Beasley had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead Kansas State.

(25) Marquette 73, St. John’s 64: At New York, Jerel McNeal had 20 points and seven rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles (19-9, 9-5 Big East) to a victory over the Red Storm (10-15, 4-10).

Women

(1) Connecticut 95, Marquette 63: At Hartford, Conn., Maya Moore tied a season high with 31 points as the Huskies (25-1, 12-1 Big East) routed the Golden Eagles (14-12, 6-7).
