Hawks force another game with Bears

Joel Underdahl scored 26 points and the Lakeland Hawks created a win-or-else situation by beating the Moscow Bears 63-47 in the Idaho 4A Region I boys basketball playoffs Thursday night at Moscow, Idaho.

The teams meet again at 7 p.m. Saturday at Moscow in a winner-to-state showdown.

Austin Black added 15 points for the Hawks (8-14), who used a 17-8 second quarter to secure a 29-19 halftime lead.

Mac Stannard and Pat LeBeau scored 11 apiece for Moscow (7-13). Anthony Williams chipped in with 10.

•Wyatt Peters had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and also had five assists and five steals to lead the Lakeside Knights to a 52-47 win over the Wallace Miners in Idaho 1A District I play at Kellogg.

Merlin Weaslehead also had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds and had five steals and five assists for Lakeside (14-5), which will face Clark Fork (16-4) for the district championship at 7:30 tonight at Kellogg.

Clark Fork defeated Kootenai (9-12) in the other semifinal. No score or details were reported.

Wallace (14-6) and Kootenai meet in a loser-out game at 6 tonight.

Jeremiah Brunelle added 11 points for Lakeside.

Darrick Holmquist scored 20 points to lead Wallace.

Prep wrestling

The Coeur d’Alene Vikings stand in fourth place after the opening rounds of the Idaho State 5A championships at the Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho.

The Vikings have 12 of their 13 wrestlers still alive in the tournament, including 11 in the championship bracket.

Post Falls’ Derrick Booth, a No. 1 seed at 112, lost. He was ahead 7-2 before getting thrown on back and pinned. He exited the tournament on an injury default in his next match.

Highland leads with 49 points, Mountain View is second at 48.5, followed by Idaho Falls (46.5) and Coeur d’Alene (39.5), 1.5 points ahead of Lewiston.

•Sandpoint is a distant seventh after the first day in the 4A championships, with Blackfoot leading the way.

•Priest River is eighth in the 3A championships.

Arena football

Linebacker Kevin McCullough and kicker Brian Jackson are the latest additions to the roster of the Spokane Shock, the team announced.

McCullough was All-Big East Conference at the University of Cincinnati in 2006 and was in camp last fall with the New York Jets before being waived.

Jackson, a Ball State product, has had experience with the AFL’s New York Dragons and Cleveland Gladiators and the NFL’s Chicago Bears.
