DOS (acronym)

A form of Web hack or attack, standing for “denial of service.”

This was one of the most common hacks about three or four years ago, as it relies on brute force rather than skill. In a denial of service attack, a hacker unleashes a vast number of connections to a targeted computer. With a very large number of such sessions started, the vulnerable site is crippled.
