Oscar De La Hoya plans to fight three times this year, then retire.

“I’m at that stage of my career now where I can’t take it further,” the 35-year-old De La Hoya said Tuesday. “I can’t go on for the next two years, three years. It’s just time to hang up the gloves.

“This is the year.”

De La Hoya wants to meet Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a September rematch of their bout last May. Mayweather won by split decision.

Pats release Colvin

New England linebacker Rosevelt Colvin, who played on two Super Bowl-winning New England teams but was plagued by injuries throughout his time with the Patriots, was released by the team.

“Wide receiver Eddie Kennison was released by Kansas City after seven seasons there.

“The New York Jets released three former starters: WR Justin McCareins, CB Andre Dyson and G Adrien Clarke.

“Minnesota agreed to send disappointing receiver Troy Williamson to Jacksonville for a sixth-round pick, according to someone familiar with the trade.

“Muhsin Muhammad and the Carolina Panthers are close to reaching a deal.

“Patriots running back Kevin Faulk was issued a misdemeanor summons last Friday in Lafayette, La., for possession of marijuana.

Capt. John Babin of the Lafayette Metro Narcotics Task Force confirmed the summons.

“A piano bar in Little Rock, Ark., that admitted Heisman Trophy runner-up Darren McFadden even though he was under age will face a $500 fine.

Tour amends policy

The PGA Tour amended its divisive cut policy, giving players on the cut line one more day of competition to separate them from the bottom of the pack.

Starting this week at the Honda Classic, the tour will return to a traditional 36-hole cut for the top 70 and ties.

“Greg Norman has agreed to be captain of the International team at the Presidents Cup, joining Fred Couples of the United States as the first captains who have competed in the matches.

ASU begins probe

Arizona State has begun an internal investigation into allegations of academic fraud and recruiting violations in its top-ranked baseball program.

“The WNBA draft will be held in Palm Harbor, Fla., on April 9, a day after the NCAA women’s basketball championship. Los Angeles will have the first pick.

“At Memphis, Tenn., top seed and defending champion Venus Williams was upset in the opening round of the WTA’s Cellular South Cup by qualifier Petra Kvitova.
