PBS documentary follows Pete Seeger

Mike Hughes Gannett News Service

Tonight’s must-see

PBS’ “American Masters: Pete Seeger: The Power of Song,” 8-9:30 p.m., KSPS.

Pete Seeger was a city kid who discovered the music and the moods of the country. It became his life. He mastered folk music, then added to it with his own songwriting. He lived the folk life; at 88, he still splits logs for firewood.

Mixed in are his politics – communism briefly, then general left-wing. He was blacklisted from TV, censored when he returned.

This is a rich life – low-key one moment and high-profile the next. This documentary follows Seeger and adds comments from Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and more.
