Robin Williams will join David Letterman when his “Late Show” returns Wednesday.

The appearance of the Hollywood A-lister may be Letterman’s way of quickly trying to get an edge on his late-night rivals, who are without writers and may have trouble booking major entertainers as guests.

Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee will appear on Jay Leno‘s returning “Tonight” show Wednesday.

Letterman announced Friday that his production company, Worldwide Pants, had reached an agreement with the Writers Guild of America to have his show return with writers despite the strike that began Nov. 5.

The deal also allows writers to return to Craig Ferguson‘s late-night show.

“There were a lot of big names who don’t want to cross the picket line, and now they won’t have to,” says “Late Show” executive producer Rob Burnett.

The late-night shows hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and Conan O’Brien are also returning Wednesday – like Leno, without writers – but have said little about who will be appearing.

Ring out the old

Among the celebrities slipping in final divorce decrees in the closing days of 2007: shock rocker Marilyn Manson, officially free from model/burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese, and former “Married … with Children” co-star David Faustino, cut loose from wife Andrea.

Meanwhile, Robin Wright Penn has filed for divorce from Sean Penn after 11 years of marriage. The couple are seeking joint custody of their two teenage children.

Wedding update

On the flip side, former “Saturday Night Live” player Jimmy Fallon and movie producer Nancy Juvonen were married in the Caribbean over the holidays. It’s the first for both Fallon, 33, and Juvonen, 40.

A kid for Kidman

And in case you haven’t heard, Nicole Kidman is pregnant, reports the Daily Mail.

The 40-year-old actress told friends and family over Christmas that she and country singer husband Keith Urban are expecting, according to the British newspaper.

Brandy flows freely

Brandy will not be charged in connection with a fatal freeway crash in December 2006.

The Los Angeles city attorney’s office said there was “insufficient evidence” for a jury to find the 28-year-old actress-singer guilty of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.

A happy resolution?

Country singer Mindy McCready has been released from jail after doing time for violating probation from a 2004 drug arrest.

An attorney for McCready, nabbed for scuffling with her mother and resisting arrest, says she has learned her lesson and will stay out of trouble.
