Diamon Simpson of Saint Mary’s committed to Fresno State as a prep senior, but changed his mind when former FSU coach Ray Lopes was tagged with recruiting violations. Simpson had 17 points and six rebounds in the visiting Gaels’ 77-68 win over Fresno State on Tuesday. He also blocked four shots to become the school record holder for career blocks (157). … The victory snapped the Gaels’ eight-game losing streak in non-conference road games. … San Diego’s Brandon Johnson needs 33 points to become the 22nd player in school history to reach 1,000 career points. Johnson was missing when USD lost to Cal State Bakersfield Wednesday night. … Junior forward Ray Murdock and freshman forward Josh Miller have left San Diego’s program. Murdock started 14 games and was averaging 5.9 points. Miller appeared in just six games.
