The Spokesman-Review

WSU Cougars

Today: at USC, 8 p.m. (FSN)

Saturday: at UCLA, 11:30 a.m. (FSN)

Outlook: USC freshman phenom O.J. Mayo (20.1 points per game) is the focus of the offense, but the Trojans have three other double-figure scorers. The Bruins, coming off another Final Four appearance, have added a freshman star of their own, Kevin Love, who averages 16.5 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.

EWU Eagles

Today: at Idaho State, 6:05 p.m.

Saturday: at Weber State, 6:05 p.m.

Outlook: The Bengals are paced by junior guard Matt Stucki, who is averaging 11.4 points per game, and will probably resort primarily to a zone defense in trying to stop an Eagles team that has taken an average of 23 shots a game from 3-point range. Weber State features one of the conference’s best post players, 6-foot-9 senior Arturas Valeika, who leads his team in scoring (10.5 ppg) and rebounding (8.4 rpg).

Idaho Vandals

Today: vs. Louisiana Tech, 7:05 p.m., Cowan Spectrum

Saturday: at Fresno State, 7 p.m.

Outlook: After a 0-2 conference start, the Vandals need a win and Louisiana Tech may provide the remedy. “It’s a game we’re looking at like a Super Bowl,” Idaho coach George Pfeifer said. “We need some validation.” Louisiana Tech also is 0-2 in the WAC. At Fresno State on Saturday, Idaho faces senior guard Kevin Bell, who leads the Bulldogs in scoring with 17.3 points per game.

Gonzaga Bulldogs

Saturday: at Loyola Marymount, 5:30 p.m., (KHQ)

Monday: at Pepperdine, 9 p.m., (ESPN)

Outlook: The Lions have the fewest wins of any WCC team and were blown out 98-64 Monday by Division II Cal State Bakersfield. Gonzaga has had numerous close calls at Gersten Pavilion and last year sixth-place LMU defeated the visiting Bulldogs 67-61.
