Achievements: Residents complete basic training

Five area residents graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

Air Force Airman Nathaniel Calvert is the son of Ben and Michele Calvert of Rockford and is a 2007 graduate of Freeman High School.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Ty Morse is the son of Lance and Laura Orton of Deer Park and graduated from Deer Park High School in 2004.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Joshua Mound graduated in 2006 from Lakeside High School in Nine Mile Falls and is the son of Bill Mound of Spokane, and Ronnie Foster of Nine Mile Falls.

Air Force Airman Aaron Reid is a 2006 graduate of Central Valley High School. He is the son of David and Michelle Reid of Greenacres.

Air Force Airman Joseph Stevens is the son of Joseph Stevens of Colbert and Jennifer Olson of Spokane. He graduated from Mt. Spokane High School in 2007. Stevens earned distinction as an honor graduate.

Philip Esmond graduated from Officer Candidate School Phase III training at North Fort Lewis in Tacoma and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army National Guard. He is the son of Gary Esmond, and Linda Esmond both of Grand Coulee. He graduated in 1994 from Apple Valley High School, in Apple Valley, Calif.

Tyler Mayes recently graduated from the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps leader development and assessment course at Fort Lewis in Tacoma. He is a 2004 graduate of Cheney High School and the son of William and Kathy Mayes of Cheney.

“The Sacred Heart School of Nursing recently announced $6,000 in scholarships to area nursing students.

Mary Fautz, received the Sister Peter Claver Memorial Scholarship.

Brian Lee was awarded the Patricia Bautch Memorial Scholarship.

Michele Wolfe and Aaron Hall were awarded the Mary Lorang Memorial Scholarship.

Bethany Akins and Nicholos Kleinsmith received the Betty Harrington Scholarship.

Ruth Orman and Elaine Allen were awarded the Connie Holum Memorial Scholarship.

Aaron Tosch received the Margaret Olney Memorial award.

Lindsay Spencer of Spokane has been named to the first trimester dean’s list at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.

“The College of Idaho announced its dean’s list for the 2007 semester. Area students on the list are: Breanna Fletcher, of Coeur d’Alene; Molli Lee-Painter, Moscow; Jennifer Nichols, Post Falls; Helen Shockley, Rathdrum.
