Shadle Park turns tables on CV

The Spokesman-Review

Shadle Park was without Lexie Pettersen when it lost to Central Valley when the two teams met in a Greater Spokane League girls basketball game to open the season.

Pettersen was back and the Highlanders (12-3) reversed the outcome – but just barely.

Shadle escaped 42-40 at Spokane Falls Community College on Tuesday night when the Bears (7-8) missed two shots in the last 3 seconds of the game, including a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

It was the third straight two-point loss for hard-luck CV.

Shadle led after a quarter, but the Bears rallied for a 31-26 advantage heading into the final period. But the Highlanders came through, winning their third game with a big finish.

This time they outscored the Bears 16-9 – Lindsay Niemeier with seven of those points. Bianca Pope had a team-high 14 points, 11 rebounds, five steals and four assists. Justine Bowman scored 14 for CV.

University 51, North Central 34: The host Titans (10-4) built a first-half lead but needed a strong fourth quarter to get past the Indians (4-11). Kasey Jurich scored 18 points, including 10 during a 15-7 fourth-quarter advantage. Lauren Millard and Janessa Carr each had nine rebounds. Katelyn Fiorillo led NC with 12 points and six rebounds.

Gonzaga Prep 62, Rogers 30: The visiting Bullpups (7-8) tied CV for fifth place in the GSL with a victory over the Pirates (0-14). A 25-9 third-quarter advantage sealed the win. Three G-Prep players finished in double figures – Kate Arnold with 15, Jensen Sayman with 13 and Brigette Pinsoneault with 12.

Mead 48, Ferris 30: The second-place Panthers (12-2) limited the visiting Saxons (6-9) to eight second-half points to pull away. Mead caused 24 turnovers and didn’t allow a field goal in the third quarter. Three Panthers finished with eight points apiece, including Alexis Olgard who had six rebounds and four blocked shots.

Lewis and Clark 74, Mt. Spokane 52: The host Tigers (14-0) scored 25 points in the second quarter and beat the Wildcats (4-10) to stay unbeaten. After trailing by 16 points at half, Mt. Spokane closed to within eight points in the fourth quarter. Jeneva Baker scored 15 points and Daisy Burke 14 for LC. Korina Baker had 15 points to pace the Wildcats.
