Two fundraisers brighten forecast

If you’re looking for a special occasion to put on the calendar, there are two fundraisers in the next few months to consider:

The Post Falls Education Foundation holds the 12th annual Wine, Stein and Dine event on March 1.

Tickets to the evening of wine and beer tasting and food samples from area restaurants are $45 in advance ($60 at the door). Money raised that evening from ticket sales, as well as raffles and auctions, is given to the Post Falls School District teachers for creative classroom teaching grants.

In the past 11 years, the foundation has given more than $225,000 in grants to Post Falls classrooms.

Wine, Stein and Dine will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Greyhound Park and Events Center in Post Falls. Tickets can be purchased at Idaho Washington Trust Banks, Post Falls Chamber of Commerce, 510 E. Sixth Ave., Post Falls Super One, 805 E. Polston Ave., and Vino, 222 S. Washington St., Spokane.

Also, the Hollywood writers strike isn’t stopping the Spokane AIDS Network from hosting its annual Oscar Night Gala.

There are only 400 tickets available to the black-tie bash, which will be held on Feb. 24 at the Pend Oreille Pavilion in the Northern Quest Casino. This is the 10th anniversary of the gala.

Proceeds benefit Spokane AIDS Network, helping with client services, case management and prevention work.

Tickets are $125 per person and include a formal dinner, red carpet treatment, paparazzi and a chance to appear on the big screen.

To purchase tickets contact the Spokane AIDS Network at (509) 455-8993, e-mail Susan Fabrikant at susanf@san-nw.org or go to www.san-nw.org.

Back in the Kitchen

Chef Char Zyskowski and her Apple Charlotte Cooking Co. are back in action.

Both the Taste and Technique and International Cuisine classes are held over five weeks. Taste and Technique classes, $350, begin on March 11, March 13, April 15 or May 19. The International Cuisine classes, $375, begin April 16 or May 21.
