Handcuffed woman jumps from bridge in Wenatchee

WENATCHEE – A handcuffed woman who had been arrested on drug charges and then pressed into working as an informant jumped from a bridge into the Wenatchee River and hasn’t been seen since, according to authorities.

Chelan County sheriff’s Lt. Jerry Moore told the Wenatchee World that she may have drowned Tuesday night or made it to shore at the Sleepy Hollow Bridge near Wenatchee.

The 43-year-old woman, Sandra I. Duffy, jumped about 20 feet to the water, which is about 48 degrees.

She had been arrested Tuesday on probation violation warrants and drug charges, including possessing methamphetamine.

Moore said Duffy had previously worked with the Columbia River Drug Task Force and agreed to help buy cocaine from a seller who wanted to meet on the bridge.

A coat was draped over her hands to hide the handcuffs.

Three uniformed officers and three undercover officers were nearby when she jumped.
