Gibson makes Maxwell list

The Spokesman-Review

Washington State University wide receiver Brandon Gibson has been named to the watch list for the Maxwell Award, given annually to the nation’s outstanding collegiate football player, the school announced Thursday.

Gibson’s 1,180 receiving yards last year led the Pacific-10 Conference and set a school single-season record.

Maxwell Award semifinalists will be announced in early November. The list will be pared to three finalists on Nov. 25.

WSU redshirt junior Kenny Alfred was earlier named to the Rimington Trophy watch list, awarded each year to the nation’s top center.

Clarkston’s Joel Dahmen shot a third-round, 1-over-par 73 to tie for 22nd place at the weather-shortened Sahalee Players Championship at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash.

Dahmen finished at 7-over 223, 13 shots behind champion Trent Whitekiller of Sallisaw, Okla.

The final round was canceled when Wednesday’s heavy rain and lightning continued into Thursday morning.
