Campfire style

Platform Booking Presents: Campfire Style continues tonight on the patio at Caterina Winery, 905 N. Washington St., with no-P.A., sit-down sets from Mordekye Layman, Kristen Marlo, Justin Knittel and Will Brasch, formerly of Tokio Weigh Station.

Gather ’round the campfire for the series finale Saturday with Dane Ueland, Dave Hannon, Larren Wolford and Joel Smith.

Cover is $5 for both shows. Music starts at 8 p.m.

Bands for Books

Pig-rock-prog menace The Brown Notes headlines a benefit show to raise money for books in Spokane Public Schools at SpoCon’s Bands For Books concert on Saturday at 7 p.m. at The Blvd., 333 W. Spokane Falls Blvd., with Another August, Sound Curfew and Influx. All ages welcome, full bar with ID. Suggested donation is $5.

Coffeehouse rock

■Portland Chinatown dance-rock outfit The Slants’ Asian-flavored new-wave-synth-pop is filled with big hooks and choruses and fist-pumping drive. Catch it live when The Slants hit on Sunday at Empyrean Coffee House, 154 S. Madison St. with M(o) USA and Blue Bird.

■Spokane folk all-star Marshall McLean is back in the local scene after spending much of the past year traveling.

McLean plays a show on Thursday at the Empyrean, with Andrew Miller and Olive Green. Cover to be announced for both his show and The Slants. Music starts at 8 p.m.
