Making a name for themselves

My Pinky Has A Name practices live at Blue Spark’s open mike Mondays. Listen this week at spokane7.com/music/shows. (no photographer / The Spokesman-Review)
By Isamu Jordan isamuj@spokane7.com (509) 459-5299

ID: My Pinky Has A Name is named after Hannah Reader’s pinky, Mordekye, which has two eyes and mouth (beak?) drawn on it.

Sound: Indie-synth

Roster: Singer/keyboardist Reader and drummer Bobby Hattenburg

Public practice: My Pinky Has A Name practices at Blue Spark’s open mike on Monday nights.

Two two-pieces: “This two-piece is fun to play in because it’s kind of like Zelda meets a waltz,” Hattenburg said. “It’s a little bit of a challenge for me on the drums versus the totally obnoxious heavy metal two-piece I play in, which has no rhyme or reason. People start throwing stuff at us and they’re like, ‘You suck!’ And that’s when I say, ‘Oh, you think we suck now? Huh. Check out this next riff.’ That’s usually when the bartenders come up and try to unplug stuff. But when Hannah and I play, people are applauding, there’s fluffy heaven bunnies dancing around and stuff. For the most part people enjoy it, I think. It’s hard to tell … because we practice at the Blue Spark.”

Next gig: Thursday at 7 p.m. at Caterina Winery, 905 N. Washington St., for Platform Booking Presents: What Is Indie Music?, with Wayne Patrick, Caroline Francis and Mesa Drive. Cover is $5.

Spin Cycle features local musicians weekly.
