Smoke hazardous

The Spokane Regional Health District warned that smoke from Thursday’s fires consisted of an unhealthy mix of gases and fine particles from burning trees and other material.

Microscopic particles can get into eyes and the respiratory system, causing runny noses, burning eyes and illnesses such as bronchitis. It’s especially dangerous for asthmatics and people with chronic heart and lung diseases.

Those caring for young children and the elderly were cautioned to limit smoke exposure and try to keep indoor air as clean as possible.
