Indians ride Boscan to victory

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – So far Wilfredo Boscan has been Mr. Automatic for the Spokane Indians.

Boscan allowed one run in six innings of work to lead the Indians to a 4-2 victory over the Vancouver Canadians in Northwest League play on Saturday night at Nat Bailey Stadium.

Boscan ran his record to 6-0 on the season. He has twice as many wins as any other pitcher in the NWL. The right-hander struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter. He lowered his earned run average to 1.82 – second best in the league. Boscan has 28 strikeouts (third in the league) in 29 2/3 innings and has walked just four.

The Indians (19-6) got on the scoreboard first with a pair of runs in the top of the third. David Paisano ripped a one-out double. Kyle Higgins and Matthew West drew back-to-back walks off Vancouver starter Hector Garcia (1-3) to load the bases. Justin Pickett drew a walk to force in Paisano and Eric Fry hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Higgins.

Spokane stretched the lead to 3-0 with a run in the fourth. Singles by Dennis Guinn and Edward Kocel ended Garcia’s night. Paisano greeted reliever Shawn Haviland with a double to score Guinn.

Vancouver (9-16) scored its lone run against Boscan in the sixth and pushed across a run in the seventh off Indians reliever Yoon-Hee Nam. Dustin Brader pitched a scoreless eighth and Juan Peralta got his second save with a scoreless ninth.

Timothy Rodriguez’s RBI groundout in the ninth capped Spokane’s scoring.

The Indians increased their lead over second-place Tri-City to three games with the victory.
