Texas Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler extended his hitting streak to 25 games, longest in the majors this season, with a leadoff double in the first inning Sunday against the Chicago White Sox in Arlington, Texas.

Kinsler, who will be an A.L. reserve for the All-Star game on Tuesday, matched All-Star teammate Michael Young for the second-longest hitting streak in Rangers history. Gabe Kapler hit in 28 straight games in 2000.

Kinsler, a former Spokane Indian, entered the game as the A.L.’s top hitter at .333, and was hitting .422 during his streak after his 33rd double, which matched for the major league lead. He finished with three hits and drove in three runs.

Red Sox prospect shines

Che-Hsuan Lin was still sitting at his locker long after the Futures Game ended, having a bite to eat and grinning with teammates from all over the globe.

He and many of the awe-struck minor leaguers were in no hurry to leave New York’s Yankee Stadium as they soaked in their moment on baseball’s biggest stage.

Lin, a 19-year-old Boston Red Sox prospect, hit a two-run homer and nine World team pitchers combined on a three-hitter for a 3-0 victory over the United States.

“It’s one of the best memories of my life and my whole career,” the Taiwanese outfielder said through a translator.

Cubs add one more

The Chicago Cubs tied the National League record for most players on an All-Star team when Carlos Marmol was selected to replace teammate Kerry Wood, becoming the eighth player picked for the team.

Marmol was chosen because he was the reliever with the highest vote on the player ballot. He is the only pitcher in the game who isn’t a starter or a closer.

Derby field complete

Minnesota’s Justin Morneau was selected for the All-Star Home Run Derby, completing the eight-man field for tonight’s contest at Yankee Stadium.

He joins Tampa Bay rookie Evan Longoria, Texas’ Josh Hamilton and Cleveland’s Grady Sizemore from the American League. The N.L. derby lineup has Houston’s Lance Berkman, Milwaukee’s Ryan Braun, Florida’s Dan Uggla and Philadelphia’s Chase Utley.
