RiverHawks win

Willis, Purser lead way past Kelowna

Dustin Willis struck out 10 and Mark Purser drove in two runs and earned a save Wednesday night in the Spokane RiverHawks’ 5-3 win over the Kelowna Falcons at Gonzaga University’s Patterson Baseball Complex.

Willis (3-0) allowed six hits and three earned runs in 7 2/3 innings. Purser, who began the game in center field, pitched a scoreless ninth despite walking the bases loaded.

Purser had an RBI groundout in the first, then doubled in a run and scored in the third for a 4-0 RiverHawks lead.

Cody Reeves also drove in two runs for Spokane.

Kelowna’s Wande Olabisi hit a solo home run in the fifth and walked and scored during the Falcon’s two-run eighth.

Spokane (17-18) moved within one-half game of the Falcons (17-17) for second place in the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League’s East Division. Kelowna had been 3-0 against Spokane this season.

The three-game series ends tonight at GU. Spokane hosts Moses Lake on Sunday.
