The Downtown Spokane Heritage Walk, a project of the City-County Historic Preservation Program and the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture, the Spokane Preservation Advocates, the Downtown Spokane Partnership, and the Spokane Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau, is now available as an interactive Web site including maps, pictures and historic information.

The site features more than 50 downtown buildings as well as information on the historic districts and an overview of Spokane history.

Scout camp volunteers needed

Cub Country, the Cub Scout Camp recently added to the Cowles Scout Reservation on the north shore of Diamond Lake, will provide facilities and programs for Cub Scouts.

The Inland Northwest Council Boy Scouts of America began the building of Cub Country with a Tree Fort Environmental Education Center, along with a climbing wall, rope bridges, renovated camping sites and more.

Volunteers for building the Education Center are needed. Construction began June 11 and will continue through Sunday, break until Wednesday and resume through June 22. Scouts are also encouraged to volunteer.

Skilled and unskilled workers are needed and tools will be available. Meals and camping facilities will also be provided.

Spokane County

Energy plant tours suspended

Public tours at Spokane’s Waste-to-Energy Facility will be suspended through Wednesday, due to a planned maintenance outage. The residential use of the facility will not be affected.

Garbage, hazardous household waste and recyclables can be disposed as usual.

Tours will resume next Thursday. Free public tours are given each Wednesday and Thursday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
