Red Sox 9, Orioles 2: At Boston, Mike Lowell hit his second grand slam of the season, a streaking J.D. Drew hit a two-run shot and the Red Sox defeated Baltimore. Jon Lester allowed seven hits and struck out three in seven innings.

Royals 6, Rangers 5: At Kansas City, Mo., Alex Gordon and Mike Aviles each hit a two-run homer and the Royals beat Texas to avoid a three-game sweep.

Tigers 2, White Sox 1: At Detroit, Miguel Cabrera hit a game-ending solo homer in the ninth inning and the Tigers beat Chicago to complete a three-game sweep.

Indians 12, Twins 2: At Cleveland, Ben Francisco and Jamey Carroll had four hits apiece to lead the injury-depleted Indians to a victory over Minnesota.

Yankees 4, Athletics 1: At Oakland, Calif., Hideki Matsui hit a grand slam on his 34th birthday to help back Andy Pettitte as New York got the victory over the Athletics. Pettitte allowed one run and five hits in a season-high eight innings.
