Boater search suspended

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

LACEY, Wash. – Rescuers suspended their search Saturday for a 9-year-old boy and a man who have been missing since Thursday evening when a small boat overturned in the swift-moving Nisqually River.

Chief deputy Dave Pearsall said the two are presumed dead. The body of 5-year-old boy was recovered earlier.

Pearsall said searchers looked from 6 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Saturday for 9-year-old Cameron McCartney and Bryan L. Pierce with no success. The body of Cameron’s brother, Sean McCartney, was recovered Thursday evening.

Searchers didn’t plan to go out again today, but would “look around” Monday because the conditions might change by then, Pearsall said.

On Friday, Thurston County Superior Court Judge Anne Hirsch found probable cause to order the boat’s operator, Vincent Farler, 42, of Olympia, held for investigation of three counts of homicide by watercraft and operation of a watercraft while under the influence of alcohol.
