In brief: Man arrested after police find drugs, guns

The Spokesman-Review

A fugitive task force arrested a man in north Spokane on Tuesday on a felony warrant, and a search of the man’s residence at 5023 N. Lee St. also uncovered drugs and guns, Spokane County sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan said in a news release Wednesday.

The Eastern Washington Joint Fugitive Task Force executed a search warrant about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday at the home of 22-year-old Robert Lee Donahoe.

Upon his arrest, officers found Donahoe had two small baggies of marijuana in his pockets, Reagan said.

A search of the residence also found a baggie containing more marijuana, ammunition for a 9 mm pistol and 7.62-caliber bullets. Detectives later found an SKS assault rifle and a High-Point 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, Reagan said.

Detectives also found digital scales, packaging material and more than $3,400 in cash. Donahoe is currently receiving unemployment benefits, Reagan said.

Detectives charged Donahoe with felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and the original warrant for second-degree possession of stolen property.

Because Donahoe is a convicted felon, an additional charge of unlawful possession of a firearm may be pending, Reagan said.

State official honored for tobacco projects

A national group recently honored an assistant state attorney general for his work on tobacco-related issues.

Robert “Rusty” Fallis received the 2008 Laurie Loveland Award from the National Association of Attorneys General, along with Ann Uglietta of the Arizona attorney general’s office.

Fallis played a key role in helping the state retain tobacco settlement money and protecting funds used to promote anti-smoking programs, Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna said in a statement. Among other accomplishments, Fallis coordinates the NAAG’s Tobacco Project, negotiates with state tobacco representatives and helps organize resources and arguments for all states, according to a news release.

“Late nights, early mornings and time away from home are accepted and given without hesitation,” according a nominating letter penned by McKenna and Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard.

The award is named for former North Dakota Solicitor General Laurie Loveland, who was instrumental in drafting and negotiating the tobacco master settlement agreement.
