In brief: New student registration open

The Spokesman-Review

Spokane Public Schools is accepting new student registration for elementary and middle school, through Aug. 21. High school registration is also being accepted.

Student enrollment is not official until the school has processed the application. Students are registered based on space availability and in the order in which their completed registration forms are received.

Parents and guardians are urged to contact their school office after Aug. 21 to verify enrollment and obtain specific school information.

Elementary and middle school registration forms will be accepted at the administration building, 200 N. Spokane St., from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. High school registration will be accepted at neighborhood schools. Call the high schools for available hours.

Call 354-5900 for more information.

Commission hears proposals

The Spokane Plan Commission will get a look at proposed new regulations for land use along the Spokane River shoreline during a workshop session next Wednesday at 12:45 p.m. in a second-floor conference room at City Hall.

The city is in the middle of a state-required update of its shoreline master plan, which includes regulations for buildings and other uses along the river. The city planning staff is expected to recommend greater restrictions on building construction and building heights adjacent to the river and to recommend that buildings not be so large that they would block views of the river.

The public session Wednesday is expected to give the Plan Commission a two-hour review of the regulation proposals to date.
