Claire (Johnson) Thomson

Coeur d’Alene

Claire (Johnson) Thomson is celebrating her 100th birthday today. She was born June 20, 1908, in Black Brook Township, Wis., and has been a resident of Coeur d’Alene for the past eight years.

Thomson met her husband, Joseph Scott Thomson, in Missoula when he was a patient at Northern Pacific Hospital where she worked. They were married in 1936 in Minneapolis. He died in 1965.

Thomson worked as a nurse in both Missoula and Minneapolis. She retired from nursing to raise her family.

Thomson attributes her long life to good nutrition and lots of vitamins.

When asked what her most memorable moment in the past 100 years has been, she mentioned her first airplane ride in 1988 for her 80th birthday.

Thomson has one daughter, Kay Clark, of Coeur d’Alene, and one granddaughter.
