Korean students study at EWU

The Spokesman-Review

Eastern Washington University’s School of Social Work and Alcohol and Drug Studies Program will host students from WonKwang Digital University’s Department of Substance-Dependence Rehabilitation in Seoul, South Korea, Sunday through July 25.

This is the second consecutive summer South Korean students will visit the Cheney campus to learn drug and alcohol treatment methods.

“South Korea, like many other countries, is not in a position to provide adequate assistance to citizens attempting to overcome substance abuse,” said Irene Bittrick, director of Eastern’s Alcohol and Drug Studies Program. As part of the exchange, the students will participate in field practicum and classes at Eastern Washington University Spokane.

Meeting addresses aquatic plants

Residents of Silver Lake are invited to a meeting to discuss planning the Integrated Aquatic Plant Management Plan for both Silver and North Silver Lakes in the West Plains at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 708 E. Lake St., Medical Lake, 6:30 tonight.

The aquatic plant plan is funded by a $30,000 grant by the Washington Department of Ecology’s Aquatic Weeds Management Fund. The plan will help determine the milfoil control activities on the lakes.

David Lamb, a lake management specialist, will speak. Lamb has been involved in milfoil control at Sacheen, Diamond, Loon, Liberty and other lakes in the area.

The meeting will also include a questionnaire which will ask residents about their feelings about the quality and usability of the lakes and any problems they may have noticed.
