In brief: Donkey basketball fundraiser Wednesday

University Elementary School teachers and staff will take on parents in donkey basketball Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The game will be played in the Bowdish Middle School gymnasium, 2109 S. Skipworth Road. The event is a fundraiser for the University Elementary Parent Teacher Association.

There will be door prizes and a halftime shoot-out for prizes. Advance ticket prices are $6 for adults, $4 for children in grades K through 6 and $5 for grades 7 through 12. Tickets purchased at the door will cost $1 more per ticket.

EAST VALLEY

EVSD to enroll kindergarten students

East Valley School District will soon be enrolling kindergarten students for the 2008-09 school year.

District elementary schools will accept kindergarten registration forms beginning March 10. All parents or guardians must provide a certified birth certificate (children must turn 5 by Aug. 31), a completed immunization record and proof of in-district residence.

Get ready, get set for Rapid Rabbit Run

East Valley High School will host the 24th annual Rapid Rabit Run March 15.

Runners of all ages may run either five or three miles beginning at 10 a.m. at the school, 15711 E. Wellesley Ave. The five-mile run is a qualifying race for Bloomsday second seed. Trophies will be given to the top male and female finishers, and the top three finishers in each age group will receive a ribbon.

Check-in is March 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. and March 15 from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m., at the school. The entry fee is $12 with a T-shirt before Wednesday or $5 without a shirt. Late entry is $15 with a shirt and $10 without.

Candlelighters benefit dinner March 10

Jenny’s Cafe, 9425 E. Sprague Ave., will host a dinner to benefit the Inland Northwest Candlelighters March 10.

The dinner is in collaboration with the Gonzaga University pottery department, which will create handmade bowls for the meal of soup or spaghetti. The meal will be served from 5 to 8 p.m.

The suggested donation is $15, which includes the bowl. Only 300 bowls will be made. Call 474-2759 for more information.
