Appreciate WSU, GU

The Spokesman-Review

After the Washington State men’s basketball loss to Arizona last Sunday, I took a step back to reflect on the good fortune surrounding WSU and Gonzaga men’s basketball the last few years.

WSU won 20 games two years in a row for the first time in 66 years. Gonzaga just completed its 11th straight 20-win season.

The naysayers are starting again, concerning how WSU and Gonzaga will falter in the NCAA tournament. But just take a step back and appreciate the fact Tony Bennett has guided the boys to the tourney again, arguably in the toughest conference in the U.S. Mark Few again has accomplished another incredible feat at Gonzaga, another 20-win season, brutal non-conference schedule and all.

Just take a peek at the stands during an Oregon State home game, a program with great history – Ralph Miller, A.C. Green – and realize how quickly fortune can change.

I cannot thank Tony Bennett and Mark Few for the excitement and accomplishments they have achieved. Appreciate it while you can.
